The Diagnosis
October 17th, 2009 by admin

Andy was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia.

Leukemia is a type of blood cancer that originates in the bone marrow or lymphatic tissues. It involves the uncontrolled growth of cells. The disease results from an acquired genetic injury to the DNA of a single cell, which becomes abnormal (malignant) and multiplies continuously. The accumulation of malignant cells interferes with the body’s production of healthy blood cells.

Every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

There are many kinds of acute leukemia and we are awaiting further diagnosis at MD Anderson. Once we hear more, we’ll post it here.

At this time, we just ask that you keep Andy in your thoughts and prayers. Please leave any comments you want Andy or his family to read and come back often for updates.

Thank you for your concern.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!! We stopped by the hospital this morning (Saturday) and saw the aides taking you for a test…they were putting you on the elevator. I prayed God’s blessings on you…and will continue to pray for you!

    Andy-
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. You don’t know us, but we work with Randy. We have been through the cancer battle and know what you are going through. My husband was in your spot 7 years ago and he has been Cancer free for 6. I know that it is a very scary time, but the battle can be won. You are at the best hospital and have great care.

God is great and if you keep your faith and keep fighting you can survive. Being POSITIVE is the key- Don’t ever give up. Please let us know if we can do anything for you- and Randy, do what you need to do to be there for your family- we understand and support you. Andy- you are young and strong- you can beat this.

Damn. Although it’s been several years since I’ve seen Andy, I was no less shocked when his mom, Susan, emailed me the news today. (For the benefit of those who don’t know me, Susan and I were married for about ten years.) Although Andy and I were never very close, I’m nonetheless saddened that his life was cut short. My condolences to all who loved him, especially Susan, Sam, Casey, and Randy.
